Two parts of Greater Manchester have seen a 100% rise in chimney fires in just 12 months.
Both Bolton and Bury recorded six chimney fires in 2020, compared to three in 2019.
Elsewhere, other areas have reported a year on year DECREASE.
These include Wigan – which underwent a dramatic drop from 14 fires in 2019 to just two in 2020 – and Trafford (9 to 4).
Only Oldham remained static with seven reported cases in each year.
The figures were obtained by Mr Soot from Greater Manchester fire service chiefs under the Freedom of Information Act.
Mr Soot owner David said: “While any increases are a cause for concern, the general picture across the whole of Greater Manchester is much healthier than it was back in 2019.
“The overall amount of incidents is down from 42 to 38, and in Salford, no incidents at all were attended to in 2020.
“All that being said, there’s no room for complacency. There may be hundreds of chimneys out there right now which are well overdue being swept.
“That’s why, as a company, we support Chimney Fire Safety Week – a national drive to raise awareness of the need for regular service and maintenance of chimneys.
“The plain fact is the longer you use a chimney without it being swept, the greater the chance of it catching fire.
“Now is the perfect time to get your chimney swept. We are now taking bookings for September, and our friendly Appointments Team are on hand to help.”
