Our Green Pledge

Practical steps towards a more sustainable chimney sweeping service.

At Mr Soot, we believe chimney sweeps have a unique opportunity to drive positive change — particularly when it comes to air quality and responsible fuel use. We’ve made a series of practical commitments to reduce our environmental impact across the business.

Paperless Operations

We’ve moved to fully electronic certificates, invoices and receipts. No more printing thousands of documents a year — and it’s easier for you to access your records via email.

Reduced Single-Use Waste

We’ve replaced disposable gloves with reusable alternatives, switched from plastic fireplace covers to soot sheets, and moved from disposable wipes to refillable handwash. We also encourage customers to recycle soot and debris where possible.

Lower-Emission Vehicles

Our fleet runs on Euro 6 engines, cutting nitrogen oxide emissions by over 50% compared to our older vehicles — while also improving fuel efficiency and avoiding Clean Air Zone charges.

Smarter Route Planning

With sweeps stationed across the North West, we’ve halved our annual mileage in three years — despite tripling our service area. Fewer miles means lower emissions and more reliable appointment times for you.

Burnright — Educating for Cleaner Air

Our founder David co-created Burnright, a DEFRA-supported campaign that helps solid fuel users burn more efficiently — saving money, staying safer and reducing pollution.

… And We’ve Appointed Our Own Environmental Sustainability Champion!

Office Manager Sam has been chosen to lead our company’s drive towards greater sustainability.

As the person who oversees our systems, procedures and purchasing, Sam is very well placed to scrutinise all aspects of Mr Soot’s operations for greater efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

Sam said: “We’re100% committed to doing all we can as a company to reduce our environmental impact. We’ve already put a number of positive practices into place and we hope to continue pushing ahead with more initiatives.”
