Mr Soot’s ‘High-Tech Success’ Covered by Daily Telegraph

A national newspaper has highlighted the “high-tech success” which made Mr Soot one of the most recognisable names in the chimney industry.

The Telegraph approached company founder David while reporting on his successful action to secure the transfer of two web domain names incorporating the Mr Soot name.

But the resulting article went further; charting Mr Soot’s growth from a £600 second-hand van into an established brand operating across some of the North West’s biggest towns and cities.

For David, the ruling was ultimately about protecting something that has taken almost a decade to build.

“I’m proud that Mr Soot has become one of the best-known names in the chimney industry and is now a national brand.

“Within the sweeping business, we’ve introduced new services, expanded into new areas, have bases in Manchester, Wigan, Liverpool, Stockport and Preston with fully staffed offices and dedicated Appointments Teams.

“We’ve always looked for ways to move the industry forward. Protecting the Mr Soot name is part of protecting everything we’ve worked to build.”

From a £600 van to an established brand

The Telegraph examined Mr Soot’s journey from its modest beginnings to a growing operation now serving thousands of customers each year across Wigan, Stockport, Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington and Preston.

In 2023, Mr Soot became the first ever chimney sweeping company to open its own HETAS-approved training centre, delivering practical as well as business courses for entrepreneurially minded tradespeople.

The newspaper also featured David’s Trade Entrepreneur Podcast, which explores business growth and entrepreneurship within the trades.

Another national media milestone

The Telegraph feature is the latest in a long line of national media appearances for Mr Soot.

In recent years, the company has been featured on breakfast television and BBC Radio 4, as well as in national publications including the Daily Mail and trade podcasts.

David attributes that success to the work of the Mr Soot team and the thousands of customers who have chosen the company.

“A brand only becomes recognised because people repeatedly choose it.

“Thousands of customers have trusted Mr Soot in their homes, and our team represents that name every single day. They’re the reason we’ve grown from a small, one-man band into what Mr Soot is today.

“Nearly a decade ago, nobody knew what Mr Soot was. We now operate across some of the North West’s biggest towns and cities, train people entering the industry and see our success covered by the national media.

“And our HETAS Mr Soot Training Centre not only welcomes people from across Britain, but we’ve also had candidates flying in from the United States, Poland, Spain and the Republic of Ireland.

“That’s all something our whole team can be very proud of, and we look forward to strengthening the brand and continuing to grow in the years ahead.”
