H001+ Introduction to Solid Fuel

H003 (DS) – Dry Appliance Installer Defined Scope 

Following on from your H001+, this course relates to the installation of solid fuel dry appliances.  Suitable for candidates who do not intend to progress to the H005DE Biomass Training & Assessment.

  • Solid fuel and the factors affecting fuel selection
  • Fuel preparation, seasoning & storage requirements
  • Appliance types and operating principles
  • Safe combustion of solid fuels
  • Industry rules, regulations & standards
  • Identifying & responding to unsafe situations
  • Chimneys, flues & terminals
  • Air supply & ventilation
  • Installation of hearths & fireplaces
  • Commissioning & handover of dry appliances
  • Identification of faults & the correct use of terminals
  • Service & Maintenance of dry solid fuel appliances

Assessment Method: Theory & Practical.

Course Duration: Three days

Course Outcome: HETAS Statement of Results

Prerequisites: H001+ (if no previous experience)

Next Steps: Joining the HETAS Competent Person, Approved Servicing or Sweep Schemes.

H006 – System Chimneys 

Following successful completion of your H003 (DS) course, the final step is to undertake this one-day course regarding system chimneys

  • Chimneys, flues and terminals
  • Installation, design and testing of twin-wall system chimneys and connecting pipes
  • Industry rules, regulations & standards

Assessment Method: Theory & Practical

Course Duration: One day

Course Outcome: HETAS Statement of Results

Prerequisites: Compulsory – HETAS H003/DS Dry Appliance Installer course or H005DE Biomass Installer course.

Next Steps: Successful candidates can register the competence of the installation of internal system chimneys.
