Meet The Mr Soot Team: David

Job Title: Mr Soot owner and founder.

Qualifications: HETAS and NVQ qualified sweep and CAVA qualified assessor.

Experience/Roles: Lead trainer at Mr Soot Training Centre, Co-Founder of the Burnright campaign, Business Mentor for The Growth Company and have been an Area Leader for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). I am also the presenter and host of the Trade Entrepreneur Podcast, a columnist for Fireplace Specialist Magazine and undertake one-to-one advisory work aimed at supporting entrepreneurial business owners.

Favourite stove: Woodwarm – all round quality.

Most hated stove: Any stove with screwed in baffle plates. There’s no need and they almost always seize up.

Favourite piece of equipment: My Tamar brushes and 4ft rods. Love a traditional, manual sweep.

Favourite holiday destination to date: Berlin – it’s fantastic, vibrant city. Russia was fascinating but I also love Scandinavia.

Best part of my job: Seeing our loyal customers return year after year. That’s the best feedback you can get really. I also love growing our business and inspiring others to fulfil their potential; that is really fulfilling.

Worst part of my job: Nothing really. Even if we have to give bad news about an installation, it’s helping the customer stay as safe as possible so it’s always worthwhile.

Stoves or open fires? Open fires. They get a bad press but nothing quite beats the look of them, especially if they are an original feature.

Coal or wood? Coal on an open fire, smokeless fuel on a stove.

Tea or coffee? Either  – Yorkshire Tea or a Nespresso/filter for coffee if you’re feeling generous!
